Seaview is a village of unspoilt charm with safe, sandy beaches. It is a place for swimming, sailing and walking along the bay. Above all it is a totally relaxing and enjoyable sanctuary from mainland bustle, at anytime throughout the year.
The narrow streets of Seaview are a picturesque mixture of little whitewashed cottages and grand Edwardian and Victorian houses. It is also home to the famous Seaview Hotel, providing excellent fine dining and comfortable family bars. In addition there is The Old Fort a wonderful, vibrant bistro bar where you can eat freshly caught fish and enjoy a glass of chilled dry white wine and a wonderful Thai restaurant which also does takeaways which caters for those with a more exotic palate. You can also order local lobster and crab by phone a day in advance from the Bay Cafe on Seagrove Bay, just the other side of Seaview.
A minutes walk around the corner from Oaks, on the seafront in the direction of Ryde, is the Springvale Hotel which has a small bar and serves food, including breakfasts. A bit further on (5 minutes walk) is also The Battery pub which serves food.
As well as a Post Office and collection of clothing and general stores, there is a small grocery shop in Seaview which sells most items. So it is quite possible to come the island without a vehicle on the hovercraft or FastCat to Ryde, walk (40 minutes), catch the bus (10 minutes) or a taxi and survive for quite some time without the need for going anywhere. A bit further away, however, there is also a very good convenience store and off licence in Nettlestone (2 miles away) on the St Helens Road and a large Tesco, open 24 hours a day (10 - 4 on Sunday), which is located on the Brading Road. You will also find information about local farmers' markets and other local food outlets at the house.
With great beaches, sea air, fantastic and ever changing views, very adequate facilities and generally peaceful and slow-paced ambience, Seaview is a perfect hide-away at whatever time of year. It also provides a great bolt hole from where you can explore the many varied and exciting delights of this wonderful island.
